Dear NVC Members,
The year ahead for NVC will build upon the strength and commitment of the membership and countless hours of member and professional staff engagement.
I am energized to be granted the role of your Board Chairman and humbled to be so honored.
NVC is poised to further increase its Regional impact in alignment with the organization’s strategic objectives. These areas of focus reflect the priorities of members and the Regional business community. We will hone in on a clear set of issues that include economic vitality, transportation, affordability, quality of life, workforce, and diversity that are important to Northern Virginia and Greater Washington. Advocacy, engagement, and innovation will be deployed to make a difference.
We are fortunate to live and work in a dynamic Region that has a boundless future and a legacy of growth, adaptation, and change. Our community is diverse, highly talented, and populated by many who strive for excellence and collective success. We live in times that will reward those individuals and organizations who set clear priorities and best utilize their talent while adapting to fast-paced change in an innovative manner. NVC will lead in this fashion.
Of particular importance in this stage of the organization’s maturity is the need to increase the resources that can be deployed to achieve and advocate for Regional priorities. This requires continued growth and retention of membership where NVC gains both financial and reputational strength. We add to that core focus a critical priority to endow the organization with financial resources that support the mission effectively. Focus will be invested in increasing our membership and operating budget resources of the NVC Foundation and NOVABizPac. This priority will be in the forefront this year ahead.
The value I have received through engagement with NVC is a direct result of the quality and commitment of the members and professional team. Led by Julie Coons, we have an excellent team to support the mission and a broad, diverse membership, board, and officers. I have personally learned and grown from my engagement with these committed individuals. Deb Gandy has laid down a marker for board leadership that we strive to emulate, and our past chairmen serve as a wise reservoir of knowledge and success. We are stronger and more effective together. We each benefit personally as a result.
I look forward to this year ahead and I pledge to work in alignment with you to progress our business community and Region.
Mark Carrier
2024-2025 NVC Board of Directors Chairman
