NVC's Press Policy

NVC hosts numerous events featuring notable speakers and leaders from Northern Virginia's business community. Because all events require pre-registration — and many are private sessions held exclusively for our members — press access is only permitted at programs deemed open to the media. Journalists must register as press in advance to secure credentials.

Eligibility for Press Credentials

Media representatives — including editorial staff, reporters, writers, and editors — from broadcast, print, radio, and digital news outlets are eligible for credentials.

Press Access and Event Registration

For events deemed open to the press, NVC issues badges to individuals currently employed or assigned by qualified media organizations.

Press Conduct

To ensure a professional environment, all media representatives must adhere to the following:

  • Commercial activity: Press badges are for editorial coverage only. Using a badge to solicit business, sell advertising, or promote subscriptions is strictly prohibited and will result in the immediate revocation of credentials.
  • Unauthorized materials: Displaying unapproved advertisements or promotional information on event grounds is not permitted. Such materials will be confiscated, and violators may be asked to leave.
  • Event etiquette: Please respect speakers and attendees by saving questions until the conclusion of presentations. Do not block views or disrupt the program flow.

Embargo Policy

All information delivered at NVC-hosted events — including press releases and articles — is under strict embargo until the conclusion of the presentation.

  • Exclusives and advanced access: NVC may, at its discretion, provide reports or specific data to select media outlets as an "exclusive" or under "advanced embargo." In these instances, the outlet agrees not to publish or broadcast the information until the mutually agreed-upon date and time.
  • Exceptions: Speakers may grant explicit, advance permission for early release.
  • Distribution: NVC does not share its press distribution list or attendee media lists with outside organizations.

Disclaimers

NVC is not responsible for the viewpoints expressed by speakers or third parties. Inclusion in an NVC event or publication does not imply endorsement. Additionally, NVC does not assume responsibility for the real-time accuracy of event descriptions sourced from external websites.

The Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce serves as a direct channel for leadership in Fairfax County Public Schools to interact with regional business leaders. The interactions are vital to ensuring the economic growth of our community. We enjoy the collaborative relationships we have with the business community on initiatives such as workforce development, facilities construction, transportation, and the promotion of diversity, equity, and inclusion in our community. By working together, we’re preparing the future workforce, FCPS students, for the future.
