Government contracting has long served as the backbone of Northern Virginia’s economy. According to the University of Virginia’s Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service, more than 441,000 jobs in Virginia are tied directly to federal contracts — representing 7.7% of the state’s total workforce. This underscores the critical role of the GovCon sector in driving economic growth and opportunity across the Commonwealth.
Since its debut on October 16, 2003, the GovCon Awards has united finalists, awardees, business leaders, and distinguished officials to celebrate excellence in the industry. In partnership with the Professional Services Council (PSC), NVC launched an event that has grown into the region’s premier recognition of government contracting achievement. The inaugural honorees include RS Information Systems, Inc.; Hall of Fame inductee Philip Odeen; Booz Allen Hamilton (Contractor of the Year, over $500 million); and Computer & Hi-Tech Management, Inc. (Contractor of the Year, under $100 million).
