NVC Events
If you’ve ever attended one of NVC’s signature events, you’ve experienced the work of NVC’s Events Team.

At the helm are Heather Ward, Director of Programs, and Rhea Ambanta, Program Coordinator. They’re the driving force behind the success of NVC’s events, skillfully handling everything from securing top-tier speakers and perfect venues to ensuring every last detail is flawlessly executed.

To help you get to know the team behind the curtain, we asked them a few questions. Here’s what they shared:

What’s your favorite part of engaging with members?

Engaging with members gives me a sense of purpose; it’s a reminder of why we do what we do. Whether it’s helping them make a new connection or answering a question, those small moments really add up.

What’s your favorite part of event day?

After all the behind-the-scenes prep, it’s really rewarding to see everything come to life.  There’s always a bit of chaos — it’s part of the fun — but I enjoy the challenge of keeping things on track and making sure it all comes together in the end.

What’s something members might not know about you?

I love spending my free time working on hands-on projects. Whether it’s diving into home updates or refinishing furniture, I really enjoy learning new skills and figuring things out as I go. Give me a project and some tools, and I’m all in!

What brought you to NVC?

I was looking for a way to get more involved in the regional business community and saw NVC as a great opportunity to do that through events. I’ve always enjoyed the behind-the-scenes work of bringing people together, and this role lets me combine that with supporting a network of professionals doing great things in the region.

What was your first NVC event?

My first event was the Viva Virginia Legislative Reception in Richmond, less than two weeks into the role!  It was a great introduction to the energy of NVC events, and it was great to meet members and experience the buzz in the room right from the start.

What’s your favorite part of engaging with members?

My favorite part of engaging with members is learning about the different industries that make up NVC’s membership, and seeing the connections being made with each other. It’s fulfilling to see that our events offer members the opportunity to engage and learn from others on a range of important topics.

What’s your favorite part of event day?

Aside from the event itself running smoothly, I enjoy the budding interactions with attendees I may have been communicating with via email before the event, and finally putting a face to the name!

What’s something members might not know about you?

I’ve grown up doing art as a hobby for as long as I can remember, with my favorite medium being digital art and illustrations. I love learning and playing around with different tools and art programs.

What brought you to NVC?

I was drawn to NVC’s strong dedication to supporting the business community in the region. It’s rewarding and inspiring to help coordinate events where connections can be made and ideas can be exchanged through a community of business professionals.

What was your first NVC event?

The first NVC event I attended was last year’s Spring Board Meeting. It was nice to have met our knowledgeable and experienced business leaders who make up our Board. The first event I worked on was our Annual Members’ Meeting. Seeing so many of our members come together to connect and celebrate each other’s achievements was a great experience.
