Giving Back with Purpose: Celebrating GivingTuesday and the Season of Generosity

Today, as we observe GivingTuesday, we join a global movement that celebrates generosity and the profound impact of giving back. This day serves as a powerful reminder of the critical work non-profit organizations do to uplift communities and address pressing issues such as hunger, housing, and workforce development. Here in the Greater Washington Region, local non-profits are leading the charge in driving positive, transformative change, and there’s no better time than today to support their missions.

The NVC Foundation, the 501(c)(3) charitable arm of NVC, exemplifies the impact organizations can have when they unite to address the Region’s most pressing challenges. Through research, strategic programming, and innovation, the Foundation focuses on fostering opportunities that enhance the quality of life for all, creating a stronger, more resilient future for Greater Washington.

Our Foundation’s initiatives focus on key areas of community growth and Regional support, including:

  • Develop programs and activities to support the Region’s workforce development initiatives.
  • Develop programs and activities to address issues facing our military veterans, including housing, job opportunities, training, and mental health.
  • Collaborate with and among educational institutions and other exempt organizations to support the Greater Washington Region.
  • Develop programs and activities that advance diversity and social equity in the Greater Washington Region.
  • Manage a scholarship fund for children of valor awardees.
  • Sponsor, host, and/or participate in events and activities that promote education and community growth in the Greater Washington Region.

Programs like the Northern Virginia Workforce Index and the Greater Washington Apprentice Network (GWAN) are pivotal in these efforts. GWAN, for instance, offers “earn and learn” opportunities to empower individuals to gain valuable on-the-job experience and mentorship in sectors such as technology, government contracting, and cybersecurity. These programs not only equip participants with critical skills but also support employers in building diverse, inclusive, and innovative workplaces—sustaining the Region’s reputation as a thriving hub of opportunity.

GivingTuesday is not only about what we give but about how we unite as a community to create lasting change. By supporting the NVC Foundation, you are investing in solutions that address critical issues, amplify hope, and pave the way for a brighter future.

We encourage you to connect with your fellow NVC members to make a meaningful impact on Regional non-profits. Together, we can continue driving change and create a legacy of support that reaches far beyond this day. Thank you for your commitment to strengthening our community.
